Julius Erving

Julius "Dr.J" Erving played for two basketball leagues, the American Basketball Association(ABA) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played in the ABA from 1971-1976 with the Virginia Squires then the New York Nets, and played in the NBA from 1976-1987 with the Philadelphia 76ers. Dr. J performed his own style of play with moves that have never been created before him. He won the very first slam dunk contest where he became the first to leap from the free throw line and dunk the ball in. He is truly the revolutionary of the slam dunk and is the greatest ABA player of all time and one of the greatest players of all time period.

Bio:
Julius was born on February 22, 1950 in East Meadow New York. He attended Roosevelt High School where he would earn his nickname "Dr.J", then he would go to college and attend University of Massachusetts for two seasons to then pursue a professional basketball career. Julius would play for the Virginia Squires as a rookie where his style of play would first become recognized. With his enlarged Afro and unique moves, he quickly became the league's most popular player. After only a few years with the Squires, Dr.J would go and play for the New York Nets where he would win two ABA titles. Julius would then go to the NBA and sign with the Philadelphia 76ers where he would win an NBA title in 1983 with All-Stars Moses Malone and Mo Cheeks. Julius is the only player in history to win both MVP and a championship in both the ABA and NBA.
