
Hakeem Olajuwon, nicknamed "The Dream", played 18 seasons in the NBA with the Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors. Olajuwon is one of the most skilled NBA players of all time as well as one of the most skilled centers of all time. The legendary center had a variety of post moves on offense as well as an unbeatable defense, leading the league in all-time blocks to this day.

Hakeem Abdul Olajuwon was born on January 21, 1963, in Lagos, Nigeria. His first sport was soccer but when he was 17 he found joy in basketball.

For college, Olajuwon attended the University of Houston from 1981-1984. In his first season with the Cougars, Olajuwon averaged 8.3 points 6.2 rebounds and 2.5 blocks but improved his skills by learning from NBA All-Star Moses Malone. As a sophomore and junior the team known as "Phi Slamma Jamma" were led to the NCAA championship twice by Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler but did not a single championship.

Olajuwon was selected as the first pick in the first round of the 1984 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets.

As a rookie, Olajuwon teamed up with NBA All-Star center Ralph Sampson to form one of the greatest NBA duos ever known as the "Twin Towers". As a rookie, Olajuwon averaged 20.6 points 11.9 rebounds and 2.6 blocks.

The Rockets made the NBA Finals in 1994, right after the Chicago Bulls' first three-peat and Michael Jordan's first retirement. The Rockets versed the Patrick Ewing led New York Knicks and won the series in Game 7.


The next year in 1995 the Rockets returned to the Finals against the Orlando Magic who was led by the up and coming Shaquille O'Neal. The Rockets swept the Magic 4-0.

In 2001, Olajuwon was traded to the Toronto Raptors where he played the final season of his career.
